BITCH FEST: ELLIE WINSTANLEY

Sunday 27th September 2026

4:00pm

ELLIE WINSTANLEY
singer/songwriter/looper . Formerly of British Birds, Ellie is now performing solo.
Ellie’s current solo project draws from her experiences as a bassist in her teenage girl band Big Pixie, in the Latin Funk girl band Sirene Soul Shakers in Mexico, from being bassist to DIY indie band British Birds, and most importantly; from her loss of self-awareness and gain of blind confidence that only a mother can achieve.
Having said that, she has indeed earned her confidence with British Birds, garnering the attention and plays from several BBC 6 Music DJs, playing 3 live sessions for Marc Riley, playlist adds from Emily Pilbeam, alongside many plays from US stations including KEXP. She also toured twice with The Bug Club, and with DIY legends The Lovely Eggs.
Following her breakup with frontman and DIY genius Bobby of British Birds, Ellie has defiantly scraped together all of her resources to continue her musical journey, replacing the studio for her living room, and embracing the scrappy nature of her creativity.
Ellie’s love of Latin American culture, shaped by years spent in Mexico, is translated through the employment of Spanish lyrics, and Mexican inspired song structures. Beware though, as if the lyrics are in Spanish, they might be about you. Highly inspired by Uruguayan Juan Wauters, she embraces combining elements from genres across the world, spanning from doo wop, Mexican Banda, Brazilian Rhythmic poetry, British folk, and 1930s Big Band. Through her microkorg and omnichord however, these are unrecognisable, and what is left is a kind of surreal juno-soundtrack of off-kilter indie.
